Welcome!

James Island Yacht Club has the fastest growing junior sailing program in the area. It is also the most affordable and open to members and non-members.   We have grown to teaching over 100 kids per summer.  Our instructors are also amongst the best available.  Lessons are on a weekly basis.  Ages are from 7 and up.   Camp runs from June and into August.  Sign up soon as slots fill up quickly.  Full day or half day sessions are available.

Please Note: If you have Already Registered, but determine you no longer want to attend, there will be a $50.00 fee, before sending refund -   If cancellation is requested with less than 72 hours notice.   There is no fee to reschedule to a different week

Weekly CLASSES START June 21, 2021

NOTE :  WEEK 1 and WEEK 4 are FULL

ADVENTURE SAILING : This course is designed for those who want to be on the water but aren’t necessarily interested in racing. Adventure Boaters will be introduced to a variety of watercrafts. It will also explore navigation, boat mechanics, environmental awareness, and will take sailboat trips to local points of interest. This class is perfect for the child that loves the water and experiencing it in a variety of ways. This is an inspired alternative to the conventional racetrack route and builds a foundation for lifelong sailors.

BEGINNER SAILING : Students will learn through classroom and on-the-water activities in the Opti and BIC fleets of boats. This course includes water safety, boat controls, basic sailing maneuvers, basic seamanship, wind direction, and sailing a course. Sailors enrolled in this course should have a desire to learn and must be competent swimmers.

INTERMEDIATE SAILING : Students who have completed the Beginner course, and are Sailors ready to learn Racing Rules of Sailing and have afternoon on-the-water training.

ADVANCED SAILING 420/BIC/OPTI : This course is for sailors who have completed the Intermediate Course and want to continue to develop skills for beginner racing. Sailors are taught sail trim, sailboat racing, rules, tactics, and basic strategies.
